Although you may have seen some of my short fiction online, I’m not a published author, yet. My current goal is to publish short fiction at a professional magazine. It’s a lofty goal, but definitely achievable.
Flash fiction contests
I love flash fiction contests. They get me typing words on a page, and even though those words might not be great, I generate a lot of cool ideas for other stories. Sometimes I even win, and hey, who doesn’t like winning?
Terrible Minds Flash Fiction Challenge
Chuck Wendig hosts the Terrible Minds flash fiction challenge on Fridays. You can find my entries here or on his site, depending on the particular challenge’s requirements.
I won this book a few weeks ago on one of the challenges, and am in the middle of reading it now. So far, it’s really good.
#FiveMinuteFiction
Leah Petersen hosts this weekly midday contest on Tuesdays. I’ve entered a number of times. For some reason, this challenge works the best for me due to the extremely limited time constraint (forcing my inner editor to go on vacation).
#HumpDayChallenge
Tracey Hanson hosts this challenge on Wednesdays. I’ve entered a few times, and it’s a lot of fun.
